Running a forum is more difficult that managing a blog. It can be considered a full-time job. Those who are weak and unsure of themselves may not survive maintaining a forum site. Promotion and constant update of the site are necessary ingredients to establish a successful online community.

Ramona I guess there are two types of forum admins these days. One who do it with money as their primary objective and those whose main objective is to create a community to discuss the topic they are interested in.

Even though the later category also tries to monetizes their forums, their primary objective is to develop a community and content.

I have to agree with most of what you mentioned in here. The problem is that we are told that forums are a good "trick" to get repeated visitors, some had good revenue from forums and people think they will all earn big bucks ...

I started 11 forums till now and still didn't monetize that much. And I don't even care about this. Good content and community feeling are what we should focus on .. and then... money will also start being earned.

[...] In this second and final part of “Why most forums fail within first year of their existence”, I will be discussing things that are all too obvious yet missed by majority of administrators at some level. Which might eventually lead to the failure of their forums to generate users and posts. (To read the first part of this article, click here) [...]
