What is SEO?

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results or the higher it “ranks”, the more people will visit that site, statistics show that majority of people searching for information or products, rarely go beyond the first couple of pages of results presented to them, while most of them choose to visit the top four results.

This means, if you own a pet food store and your website is not in the first couple of pages for search term “dog food”, you are loosing out on the free traffic!

As a marketing strategy for increasing a site’s relevancy, SEO considers how search engine algorithms work and what people search for. SEO efforts may involve a site’s coding, presentation, and structure, as well as fixing problems that could prevent search engine indexing programs from fully spidering a site. Other, more noticeable efforts may include adding unique content to a site, and making sure that the content is easily indexed by search engines and also appeals to human visitors.

In a nutshell, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) not only aims to ensure your site is easily readable by the human visitors, it also ensures the same is easily accessible to search engine spiders, to ensure that your site ranks well in the search engines for the search terms that will get you free traffic.
