Targeted forum spamming
Lately I have been observing a steady increase in targeted forum spamming; my travel forum is being spammed by people who belong to the travel niche!
On one had it means my forum is gaining popularity, on the other hand dealing with this type of spamming has become time consuming. This is due to the fact that my forum is now being manually targeted by these spammers! With people doing the spamming instead of a software program, it becomes tough to detect these spammers till they show their true colors.
While the anti spam measures are enough to keep bots at bay, when it comes to human spammers, there isn’t much that can be done. After all last thing I want is my forum becoming hard to register for normal users or having to manually approve each and every member.
For now we are holding well with at least one staff member present on the forum round the clock and deleting posts and banning spammers in a matter of minutes.
But I feel it is time we start taking some serious steps not only against the spammers, but also against people who hire them.

Forum spamming seems like a pretty inefficient way to go about getting links (or whatever they’re trying to do). But obviously some spammers will do anything they can whether it makes sense of not. One of my article sites gets hundreds of bogus author signups every week. Frankly I think spammers are just plain stupid.
Rick I think forum spamming is being done to get traffic, rather than for Google PR.
Even though most experienced forum users would just ignore or report the post, few inexperienced people will click on the link and considering one can hire a spammer for few dollars and get the spamming done in a hundreds of forum, it might just be worth it for few.
Though in the long run they risk loosing their reputation, which I feel is the most important aspect of running a business, whether online or offline.
