I can't be bothered to say what I was going to say about registering my dot info site since you have nofollow applied to the comments.

Oh, whatever: I think it should not matter, even more so now since so many good domains are being cyber squatted.

As long as we post good content and behave normally as webmasters I don't see why it should be an issue.

Vin this has to do with the fact that many spammers buy .info domains because they are cheap, while these sites might rank high for a while, usually they are thrown out of serps after a while. Also there are quite a few .info sites that rank well in search engines, PRChecker.info being one of them.

VinK you are so wrong. The lack of exposure is more that the people buying .info domains are less determined than those who got in early and bought the .com domains.

The .info that I own is about 5 years old and ranks well considering the intense niche and lack of fresh content.

The answer is
Google definitely penalizes the .info TLD.
Stay away from .info TLD's they are SEO suicide

Proof:
Prove it yourself.
1. Do a google search for any keyword.
2. Press ctrl -F to search for words in the page and type .info , press enter.
3. Repeat steps 1 and and 2 many times noting the results.

SURPRISE ? No...9 out of ten times there is no .info website within the first 10 results
